Winter Solstice

Today's the day.

For me, winter solstice is not just the shortest day of the year; it's also one of my favorite books. I read this Rosamunde Pilcher novel almost every year, and no matter what else is going on in my life, I can escape to the world of her beautiful descriptions of people, landscapes, and interiors. It's such a comforting, satisfying story: the really nice people find happiness.

Wishing you a happy shortest day of the year, all you Northern Hemisphere people!

  1. hi there, i haven't thought of this book for maybe 10 years but i remember loving it when i read it...i saw on someone else's blog they make a christmas tradition of reading it too...i haven't stopped thinking about it since but can't find my old copy so i'm going to try and find it on ibooks....i too will be joining you in reading this lovely book. happy winter solstice:)

  2. Like the above commenter, I saw that another blogger mentioned reading this every winter ... now it will bug me until I figure it out.

Don't you enjoy books with happy endings? (Real life has enough tragedy, I think. No need to read about it too. Perhaps I'm a literary wimp.)

Happy winter and enjoy your re-read! It's so nice to read a good book over again.

  3. Oh, I have never read this. I will have to check it out!

  4. It's my Christmas read too.

Thank you!
