Passionate

During the Palm Sunday service this morning,
we sang one of my favorite hymns.
The music is Thomas Tallis' The Third Tune.

Ralph Vaughn Williams
wrote an absolutely stunning,
soaring,
achingly beautiful
piece of music
based on this tune.
It is called
Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

The first time I heard it,
I was driving home from work.
I had to pull over and stop the car.

If you have a few minutes, please listen.

  1. You're right, that is a very beautiful piece of music. I'm, on my lunchbreak now but when I get home I shall fire up my iPod and play it while I cook dinner. Gorgeous.

  2. Lovely post - did you know that the ash for As Wednesday should be made from the previous year's palm crosses. MrM spent much of his childhood folding palm crosses for distribution in his father's churches
