Anticipation

Oh, the first tomato of the season! Not from my garden, but from our CSA farmers.

The basil is from my garden, though, thanks to gardening encouragement from Angie.

And here is the other thing I'm anticipating: we are meeting some friends for dinner tonight, and G is going willingly. Because he is often too tired or too disinterested to go out (he even turned down a suggestion a couple of nights ago to go out for ice cream), our social life has gotten smaller and smaller. So I was amazed that he said yes when a friend suggested we get together. These are friends from our memory loss journey - G and Don belong to a group that provides cultural enrichment programs in the city.

I feel like I'm going to prom. I'll take my camera and try to remember to take some pictures.

Cool beauty in summer's heat

We're having a hot and humid spell.

Looking at these blooms gives me some relief.

Sidetracked

A bouquet from my garden.

Many apologies for my long silence. I seem to have only so much space in my brain, and the part that was reading blogs and writing this one has gotten sidetracked. The happy news is we are planning a new home and have been working with an architect who specializes in green design.

Because G is having more and more difficulty with mobility, I had been thinking for some time that we will need to do something to accommodate him. This house isn't well suited to be retrofitted, so something else needs to happen. Hence, the plan for a new home.

I'm also working on getting our house ready to sell. That and keeping up with the usual stuff of life and the flower and vegetable gardens have consumed my attention.

Hope to be able to fit this back in - I've missed reading about you all and sharing what's been going on.

After the Rain

Everything looks so green

and lush

and the raindrops are like diamonds
on the leaves of the columbine.

Quincy Gets a Bath

Once a year, whether he needs it or not.

I always forget how skinny he is under all that fur.

After the blow dry -
but the groomer says he's not quite dry enough.

This is a dog dryer.
Quincy wasn't crazy about it,
but he liked it better than the hand held blow dryer.
I felt like I was watching him on TV.

All clean, and so fluffy!

Wash Day

The view from my upstairs study.

Whoa, it's windy!

And not just from one direction, either.

Which is all very well until there comes a lull,
and then I can see that my newly strung clotheslines
need some major tightening.
We had a big rainstorm last night, so at least the grass is clean.

This is my first venture into hanging clothes to dry instead of using the dryer.
Maybe the hank of line I found in the basement isn't suitable for a clothesline -
it seems to be pretty stretchy.

Seeds!

I finally planted the Liberty Garden with some of the seeds I ordered:

Carrots, radishes, onions, spinach, arugula.
And I'm ready for the rabbits.
